Unlocking the magic of Disneyland, one hotel at a time.

Old Key West, DVC Property

Old Key West is the original Disney Vacation Club resort. It’s large, spread out, and the rooms are plentiful. This property has an interior bus system. You can catch a theme park bus from any bus stop or you can catch the interior bus to go up to the main pool, lobby, and restaurant area. Have them explain the bus system to you when you check in. We had a car our first visit here, and did not visit any theme parks on our second visit, so I wouldn’t trust myself to explain it now! LOL

If you are considering renting a car for your Disney World trip, this is not a bad resort to have a car at. You can drive yourself right up to the building with your room and park. Parking at the resort is free for DVC members, as is parking at the theme parks.

If you’re a golfer, this is a perfect spot for you as the Lake Buena Vista Golf Course runs right through the resort.

If you’re looking for DVC exclusive merch, the gift shop here is a good place to search.

Sadly, I have not tried Olivia’s. I did have a peek inside and heard the story of Olivia’s from the Cast Member. Ask to hear it from your Host/ess or Server next time you visit. You can sit down for a meal here or order for pickup to go back to your room.

There’s the Gurgling Suitcase Bar and Good’s Food To Go quick service – the only place to order Key Lime Pie Dole Whip!

Then the Community Hall is a great place to “rent” some board games or DVD. They offer daily activities for kids and adults, paid and complimentary. There’s a wealth of activities to choose from so make sure you stop by. You can also rent bikes and Surrey bikes! The fitness center is bookended in there as well.

The main pool has the sandcastle slide and sauna. Don’t worry about needing to come all the way up here to swim, though. There are at least 3 other pools scattered throughout the resort. Hot tubs also. Or submit a request to be in a building close to the lobby, if this pool/boardwalk area is important to you.

For this trip, we had a 1 bedroom. Large open kitchen, dining room, and living space. Washer and dryer. Split bathroom with shower, toilet, and sink in one room, and soaker tub with sink adjoined to the bedroom/closet space. Doors to the patio from both the bedroom and dining room.

Transportation options here are bus and ferry. Bus will take you to theme parks and Disney Springs; ferry will take you to Disney Springs or nearby resort Saratoga Springs. Of course, you can also use your car, as I suggested earlier.

This resort can be dated, but personally I think that just adds to its charm. Very old Florida beach vibes, very laid back. If you enjoy or need plenty of space, this resort is for you – much like all the DVC resorts! And to make things better, it’s one of the most affordable DVC options.
