Candy Cane Inn Review: Why This Small Disneyland Hotel Has a Cult Following

The Candy Cane Inn has a bit of a cult following — guests who stay once and keep coming back. It’s a short 6-minute walk from Disneyland (or you can take their free trolley if your feet are done for the day), and after spending time here, I get why people fall in love with it. Here’s the honest, full picture.

Location & Walkability

Once again, it’s about a 6-minute walk to the Disneyland gates, but if you’d rather ride than walk there’s a free trolley shuttle available. Very convenient!

Layout & Lobby

The property is built in a U-shape, with the lobby, pool, and breakfast area filling the center and rooms lining the outside. In the lobby, there’s a seating area, an infused water station to fill your bottles before heading to the parks, and a cute little gift shop with hotel-specific items (I loved the magnets) plus a few essentials you might have forgotten. (Small personal detail: I’m always on the lookout for Dr. Pepper since it’s not sold inside Disneyland and they sell it here in the lobby fridge case. I was very happy to find it! Of course you can also get your Dr. Pepper in a grocery pickup/delivery, but sometimes you just need one right now!)

Breakfast — a Real Perk Here

Free breakfast is one of the reasons this hotel has such loyal fans. It’s continental-style, so don’t expect a huge hot spread — the only two hot items are the oatmeal (in the breakfast area) and a waffle-making station out on the pool deck. Beyond that: cereal, chocolate syrup for chocolate milk, coffee, granola, yogurt, tea, fruit, meats and cheeses, and pre-made breakfast sandwiches (ham, turkey, and a vegetarian option) (try toasting them!), plus pastries. Some room types include breakfast delivered to your door, but only the cold items — no oatmeal or waffles that way.

Pool Deck

This is where the hotel really shines, especially around sunset when the fireplace and lights come on — the ambiance is genuinely spectacular. There’s a hot tub under a pergola, a small splash pool for younger kids (about a foot deep) tucked behind the hot tub, and the main pool on the other side of the hot tub.

The Room

Post-COVID, Candy Cane Inn went through a major renovation — the whole property, including the rooms, has felt essentially brand new since 2023. I stayed in a king room, so keep in mind the notes below are sized for two people:

  • Storage space was a little tight — worth factoring in if you’re putting 3+ people in one room
  • The mini fridge includes an actual small freezer compartment, which is a genuine find for the Anaheim resort area, where freezer space is hard to come by
  • Good towel-hanging space (a personal pet peeve of mine): two hooks in the shower plus three or four more by the sink
  • Rooms face the parking area with outdoor hallway access

Price & Value

Free breakfast and free parking are both included in the nightly rate here, plus the free trolley — genuinely good value additions that most nearby budget-to-midrange hotels charge separately for.

Who This Hotel Is Best For

Families and couples who want a short, easy walk (or trolley ride) to Disneyland, appreciate included breakfast and parking, and don’t need a full-size on-site resort experience. The storage-space note above is worth a second look if you’re traveling as a bigger group in one room.

The Verdict

It’s easy to see why this hotel has repeat guests who keep coming back — the combination of walkability, free breakfast, free parking, and that gorgeous evening pool-deck ambiance adds up to real value. A great pick if you want convenience without full Disney resort pricing.
