Disney Hotel Lady

The Cortona Inn sits about 12 (normal-size) blocks from Disneyland down Harbor Boulevard. It’s in the old motor inn style, where doors to the rooms face the open-air hallway and parking lot. The lobby is situated on an island in the parking lot, along with the pool, gift shop, business center, and breakfast room.

The property is set back from the street. Access is gated at the street by a barrier arm. You are given a garage-type ticket at check in that you use upon entering and exiting the parking area. The parking area is shared by the next-door Hyatt Place. Speaking of Hyatt Place, the Cortona Front Desk will also refer you next door to Hyatt Place as the closest dining option. There are some grab-and-go options and a bar, but it is very limited, so be prepared to go out for or bring food back to your room.

There is a credit card laundry located on the second floor. If you need to buy soap or dryer sheets, there is a coin-operated machine (note the difference). I did not use the laundry facilities on this trip.

I was surprised to find 3-4 EV charging spots right outside the lobby. Given the age of the hotel, I did not expect that. One was out of order while I was there, though. I did not have the ability to test the working charging stations while I was there either. 😜

I did not get a chance to use the pool, though I believe it was described as a heated pool. I did want to use the jacuzzi while I was there, but it appeared it was under refurbishment which, while disappointing, was expected since I visited in February.

Let’s get to the main event – the room! I booked a Junior Suite, which held two queen beds, a set of bunk beds, and a pull-out couch. It also had a large mini-fridge, microwave, and small drip coffee maker. The room was large to accommodate all the large furniture.

I appreciated the USB-and-outlet bank on the night stand between the queen beds. Great for charging devices while sleeping. There were reading lights on the bunk beds, but the bottom one was broken. There was also quite a large space between the bunk beds and the wall – large enough toys or a small child could fall down between.

My biggest gripe about the room, though, is one that most hotel rooms share with Cortona’s room – not enough storage! If you fill this suite to capacity, you will have 6-8 people in one room. But there were only 3 drawers! The closet was average size for a hotel room, but given you could have 6 people in the room, it seemed very small. There was a pretty big space between the beds and the TV/dresser, so the space exists for more storage.

There’s a nice long counter that the sink sits in. Counter space is great, but in this suite I may have considered a double sink. The shower and toilet area were average. Not enough places to hang a towel (another complaint many hotel rooms share).

The size of the breakfast room fit the size of the property – both on the smaller side. Breakfast consisted of eggs, sausage, and potatoes on the hot bar. The potatoes were a little spicy, which might not suit everyone. There were also toast and cereal options, along with coffee and juices. There may have been some tea bags available too.

In the lobby, water and coffee are available 24/7. There are restrooms around the corner, behind the front desk. You can also access the restrooms from the pool area. There is a computer and printer which make up the “business center.” Any luggage carts they have on hand are stored in the hallway to the restrooms. This is important to note because the lobby is in no way close to the elevators, as you can see on the map above.

The gift shop is small, but well-stocked. Plenty of souvenirs at good prices, as well as drinks and snacks and some sundries. Don’t forget to check out my post on how to save money on souvenirs here:

Souvenirs on a Budget

My biggest complaint at this property was, due to how it is positioned among other buildings and parking, it is very loud. The building is older and does not have good soundproofing. I could hear everything from neighbors in other rooms to the housekeeping carts to the garbage truck. Their website boasts about the property being set so far back off the street that your stay will be tranquil – but that was not my experience at all.

Overall, it’s a rather unremarkable hotel. Its location close to the Anaheim Convention Center and Disneyland Resort is its biggest selling feature. If you have a large group or family that you’d like in one room (or two) at fairly reasonable prices, this may be another reason for you to choose this hotel.

Side Note for Solo Travelers

As a solo traveler, I could not recommend this hotel. It is set back from the street; the lobby is separated from the rooms; and there are lots of foot paths – all of this making it less than comfortable for someone on their own. Though I’m sure if you had to scream, everyone would hear you, lol.
