Disney Hotel Lady

Located just down the street from Disneyland on Harbor Boulevard, the Portofino Inn is … just meh. It will certainly suffice as a place to sleep and shower, but if you’re hoping for more amenities, you may want to look elsewhere.

Let’s find out why.

This hotel has two buildings, side by side (as somewhat seen in the intro image). The main building has the lobby, laundry, pool, gym, and game room. The secondary building has the gift shop and parking below it. Housekeeping is offered every other day, or as requested.

First off, the lobby. It’s perfectly pleasant and functional as far as lobbies go. There’s a small nook with one of those infamous brochure stands if you’re looking for information on local activities. But what stood out to me was the lack of handicap accessibility. By that I mean I simply did not see one of those blue buttons at either set of lobby doors that you push to open the door automatically. Don’t ask me why I noticed this, but I did.

Next, let’s look at the pool. It’s a basic square pool with some loungers around the outside. There is one unisex bathroom. There is a hot tub as well. I saw several families enjoying these facilities.

There is supposed to be a “game room” next to the exit to the pool area. I tried more than once to gain entry with my key card, but it never worked. I forgot to ask about it at the front desk. Through the door, though, I did see a nice 6-person round table perfect for playing board games.

The gym is very small. There is one treadmill, one elliptical, a handful of free weights, and a small space for yoga/pilates/stretching. If you need a gym in your hotel, this is probably not the gym-hotel combo for you. Take a look.

I found the laundry puzzling. It was located in the same room as the ice machine on the first floor. We didn’t have a need to use the machines this stay, but they appeared to be coin operated. There was also a random microwave.

For the main event: We had a standard double queen room. There was a fridge, desk, and small table/eating space. The bathroom area was quite dark and made it difficult for two ladies getting ready in the morning.

It seemed very quiet, but I think there was just no one staying near us. I think this because our final night we heard quite a lot of movement above us, which we didn’t hear the other nights.

The hangers in the closet are that weird kind that don’t have a hook on top, but slide into a metal contraption that’s permanently fixed to the rod. That was annoying for us as we had planned to use hangers to steam out some shirts and hang up swimsuits.

The room was fine, but just seemed like it needed a refresh. Everything seemed brown and drab. And there was plenty of wear and tear visible in the toilet/shower. Not a place I personally want to spend a lot of time.

The gift shop is larger than it appears on the outside and has a wide selection of souvenirs.

The ART bus stop is just outside the front of this hotel and is the first stop on this route – coming and going, so great when returning from Disneyland; not so great riding to Disneyland.

The CVS is right next door too, which is awesome.

The proximity to Disneyland is the best feature of this property. Everything else felt just run-of-the-mill.
