Disney Hotel Lady

Unlocking the magic of Disneyland, one hotel at a time.

JW Marriott Anaheim Resort

The JW Marriott Anaheim Resort (not to be confused with the Anaheim Marriott) sits directly adjacent to the Anaheim GardenWalk. It’s a 10-15 minute walk to Disneyland.

This hotel is ideal for couples. It boasts separate shower and soaker tub in each room and a rooftop bar with views of Disneyland fireworks.

There is a $30 daily resort fee. But they justify this charge by saying it covers a daily $30 food & drink credit, internet, daily yoga for two, daily wine tasting for two, and a credit at Roy’s in GardenWalk. The food & drink credit resets at 11am each day. So if you arrive late your first night, as I did, you can use it the next morning on breakfast (room service included!) Taking advantage of at least two of these inclusions puts you on top.

I stayed here 2 nights in May and was almost sorry to leave.

LOBBY

When you enter off of Clementine Street, you actually come in on the conference center floor. Here you’ll find all the meeting rooms, ballrooms, bell services, and the coffee bar/snack shop. Ride the escalators under the elegant chandelier up one floor to the lobby.

The main lobby floor houses the Citriculture bar, Tocca Ferro restaurant, pool area, and outdoor garden area. You can exit the lobby into the garden area and go directly into GardenWalk. You can cut through GardenWalk to Disney Way to minimize your walking time to Disneyland. Direct access to GardenWalk also opens up an abundance of dining options for you, along with a movie theater, bowling alley, and other entertainment & shopping options.

The gym is located on the mezzanine level between the conference center floor and the main lobby floor. You can only reach this by the elevator or stairs, no access from the escalators. The “included” yoga class I attended was fantastic and, since I was the only attendee, very personalized. Highly recommend making room in your schedule for this. Thanks, Phillip!

There’s a very small gift shop behind the front desk. You can get a bottle of wine or a beer, some ice cream. But if you’re looking to save money on souvenirs, this is not the place to do it. There is a very small selection, so you could find something. But the Disney merch isn’t the focus. They have a few other souvenirs geared toward California and well-being.

POOL

The pool here was quite disappointing, considering this is such a high caliber hotel. It’s large to be sure, but it’s plain and square and boring. And the cabanas do not look like they are worth the extra cost at all, to me.

The best part of the pool area is the bar area. It comes over a pass-through area from the lobby which gives it a high-end home/backyard feel.

Another good feature is a locker area, very much reminiscent of your gym locker room. Plenty of space for valuables, but not quite enough to store luggage if you are trying to use the pool on your check out day.

Showers are just outside the locker area.

RESTAURANTS

The only real restaurant inside the JW Marriott is Tocca Ferro, an Italian style concept. It is open for breakfast and dinner. I tried breakfast with my $30 credit. You can order a la carte or choose the buffet. I opted for the buffet. It was more than I expected, but less than I wanted, if that makes any sense. I didn’t get pictures because — well, I just forgot 😆 Service was great, though.

The lobby and rooftop bars do have food, but the selection is what you might expect from a bar. I have to say, though, that I was really impressed with the dessert I got at the rooftop bar. That night that’s what I used my credit on, dessert and a drink.

Parkestry rooftop bar was cozy and small and awesome! I was up there on a weekday and there were literally two other parties there. Small but empty suits me. The vibe was great and the view of Disneyland fireworks was great. Recommend!

ROOM

The main event!

This was a very comfortable room. I did not have a theme park view, but you could get one and have a very similar view to the rooftop bar, theoretically. I could see the park from the window at the end of the hall though.

Although the color scheme here is more brown, I didn’t mind. It came across as a definite color scheme and choice, to root you to the earth I’m thinking. Not like other hotels where I’ve complained about the brown color being drab.

Let’s have a look.

CONCLUSION

This is an upscale, adult hotel. If that’s you and that’s what you’re looking for, this is a beautiful, comfortable place to stay, heightened by its location close to the GardenWalk. (Wonderful Happy Hour over at McCormick & Schmick’s btw!)

This is not the ideal place for your family vacation. Sure, you can bring your family here, but someone might get bored. Just sayin’.
