Unlocking the magic of Disneyland, one hotel at a time.

The Westin Anaheim Resort

The Westin Anaheim Resort is located at the corner of Disneyland Drive on Katella Avenue. Don’t let it’s location fool you — it’s not the easy walk it might seem. It does have a unique view of California Adventure.

This hotel is another upscale resort perfect for couples. Or those who are into its lifestyle-forward approach, perhaps families with teens, or special dietary needs. Let’s talk about it.

LOCATION

It may appear on the map that this hotel is really close to Disneyland. Technically, that is true, it is situated very close. But from a practical perspective, if you are planning to walk to the park, it is not as close as you might think. As shown by the red and purple line paths in the picture below, you have to walk all the way around California Adventure to reach an entrance to either park. That’s a 20-minute walk, which is closer to the time it would take you to walk to Disneyland from a hotel near Orangewood, such as DoubleTree, Hyatt Place, or Cortona.

Walking back to the Westin is not bad at all, especially if you are coming from California Adventure because you can cut through. Watch the walk back with the “shortcut” in the video below. Also shown by the orange line path in the picture above.

LOBBY

The lobby has an expansive seating area, live music in the evening, and bar. The check in desk is oddly off to the right hand side when you enter. You actually see and approach the concierge desk first, and I saw more than one person get redirected from concierge to check in including myself.

There are neat screens on one of the pillars in the lobby where you can check the weather and flight statuses at LAX and SNA airports.

The meeting rooms and ballrooms are also on the lobby level, as well as the gym, pool, and Tangerine Room restaurant. Outside the lobby, but still in the courtyard area are the restaurants Puesto and Blossom Cafe along with a UPS Store for any of your convention needs.

RESTAURANTS

Whether you choose to dine in room or at one of the main level restaurants, the menus at The Westin are all very health conscious. They have lots of meal options for various diets and health concerns directly on the menu. I even found keto cheesecake!

Puesto is a Mexican-inspired menu, focusing largely on tacos. Fleming’s is a steakhouse that is accessed on the street-facing side of the building.

RISE, the rooftop bar, is a popular spot for fireworks viewing. Reservations are recommended if you’d like to take advantage of the view.

GYM & POOL

This is the largest hotel gym I’ve seen to date. I don’t think there’s anything you couldn’t find in this gym. Plus, there are packages you can rent from the concierge and take to your room. I rented a Recovery package for $5 a day. It consisted of 3 different devices for massaging, pounding, and vibrating your muscles. This felt oh so good after walking around Disneyland taking pictures. If you prefer not to pay for the privilege, one type of these devices is also available for use in the gym. Instead of water bottles in the gym, there’s an odd-looking spigot that will dispense cold water, hot water, and carbonated water.

The pool itself is nothing to write home about. But the hot tub is another one of the biggest I’ve seen. Instead of jets bubbling up all around, this hot tub is powered by waterfalls. A very soothing change to sit and relax in, but if you like sitting in front of the pressure from the usual hot tub jets, you might miss them here.

There’s a small bar area to sit and watch TV at, but the main focus is poolside service. There are cabanas to rent. There are fire pit areas to sit at if you happen to find it cold outside. This is a great pool area to read a book at or work or exercise outside.

ROOM

And finally to the main event!

This is one of the most high-tech rooms I’ve seen in the Anaheim area. All of the lights are controlled by panels on the wall. All of the lights had dimmers, which I loved! You could also set a “Privacy” setting on the panel by the door, which I took to mean Do Not Disturb. There’s also a physical DND sign to hang on the door.

The bed was HEAVEN. In particular the comforter, so so cozy. And they leave a little roller ball vial of lavender essential oil for relaxing sleep. I took it with me and now use it in my travels.

CONCLUSION

I highly recommend this hotel if you are an all-adult travel party and/or have special needs or desires that would be met by the exercise and food focus discussed herein. It’s a beautiful hotel.
