Unlocking the magic of Disneyland, one hotel at a time.

Candlewood Suites Anaheim Resort Area

Candlewood Suites Anaheim Resort is located just a few blocks from Disneyland Resort – more than a few steps from the crosswalk. Overall, this hotel isn’t very impressive, with a few exceptions. It’s adequate. Let’s talk about why.

LOCATION

Technically, Candlewood is within walking distance of Disneyland. It’s right on the edge of my personal comfort zone for walking distance though. You walk an awful lot at Disneyland. Thankfully, an ART bus stop is literally right outside of the hotel. I did have to wait quite awhile for a bus though, so take that as you will.

ROOM

I had a one queen studio for this stay. It was small but that was to be expected as there was only one bed in the room. The full kitchen was the highlight, especially the full size fridge.

POOL

The pool itself was a big let down, especially since right across the street is the Cambria with its pool area and water slides in full view. Candlewood has a plain rectangle pool, but to make it worse, it’s a tiny rectangle. There was plenty of seating, but I would fear if more than 2 or 3 families got in the pool, it would be overcrowded.

There was no hot tub, a dagger to my heart.

A big plus though – if you are planning on making your own meals and a full-size fridge is appealing – is the enormous grills they had on the pool deck.

The rest of the property is fairly small as well: the lobby, the laundry, the gym. The staff was pleasant.

CONCLUSION

The main advantages of this hotel are the full-size refrigerator, the grills on the pool deck, fairly close to Disneyland and the generally-low price to book here. If any of those are what you are looking for, then you’ll be perfectly happy here. If they are not what you are looking for, try another property.

P.S.

A side note that applies to most hotels, not just Candlewood, but Candlewood made it easy for me to illustrate: Towel hooks. Towel bars. Hanging areas of any kind. I have yet to find a hotel that has enough places to hang things. Look at these pics below. They had a cute little place to hang things outside of the bathroom, which was great – for one person, maybe two. Another one or two of those cute hooks would have been fabulous INSIDE the bathroom – there was plenty of space for it!

Cute, right? Very handy!
Where’s the hand towel rack to dry your hands after you wash them??
Another hook here could have been HUGE. Missed opportunity…

Thanks for listening; gripe over.
