Disney Hotel Lady

Unlocking the magic of Disneyland, one hotel at a time.

DoubleTree Suites, Anaheim Resort – Convention Center

DoubleTree Suites is located south of Disneyland at the corner of Harbor and Orangewood. We were delighted by our stay here, which was due in large part to the amount of space we found in our room. Let’s dig into it.

LOBBY

The lobby has a large open concept, like some of the other more upscale hotels in the area. The restaurant, bar, business center, gift shop, and cafe all branch off of the lobby area.

Our delight started here in the lobby when we came quite early to check in. We knew this hotel, like others in the area, collected a fee for early check in. We decided the night before not to arrange early check in and pay the fee, but we still needed a place to work for a few hours and thought maybe they’d let us hang out by the pool instead of loitering at the local Starbucks.

We arrived around 11:30am and headed to the front desk. An employee came out to help us and we explained we knew we were early but would it be ok for us to hang out by the pool while we waited. He said of course and also offered to pre-check us in and call us when our room was ready, asking if we preferred a high or low floor. We gladly agreed, prefer a high floor, and chatted with him some more as he typed and clicked away on the computer and helped a couple other guests. I thought it was odd he made us wait so much, but I chalked it up to us having a pleasant conversation.

Then as he finished up, he said our room actually was ready. We remarked on how quickly the room had opened up and he confessed he’d actually been testing us a bit. Since we were patient and friendly, he had not only granted us early check in without a charge, but also upgraded our view (as we learned later that night) so that we could see the fireworks from our room.

Let that be a lesson to all of us – treat staff everywhere with kindness and courtesy without expectation.

RESTAURANTS

The Agio is the only sit-down restaurant, along with the bar/lounge. We did not eat in the restaurant proper, but did have snack in the bar. The food was fine. The service was great.

Think of the cafe as the Starbucks of the hotel. It serves a lot of coffee, tea, and pastries the exact same as you would see at Starbucks. Very little is different.

GIFT SHOP

The gift shop is between the business center and cafe. It’s small but packed with all kinds of souvenirs, snacks, and essentials you may have forgotten.

POOL

The pool is basic but fairly large. There is a hot tub and shower, loungers and tables and chairs. This pool is located on the second floor, giving a small, limited view of the Disneyland fireworks at night.

There is no poolside food or beverage service.

GYM

The gym is small and right outside the pool area, along with some vending options.

LAUNDRY

An unexpected amenity is the self-serve laundry. DoubleTree does not mention this as an amenity anywhere on their website, so we were surprised but happy to find it. There is a small laundry room with a couple of machines on both the 5th and 7th floor.

ROOM

And now, the perhaps most impressive part of the hotel – the room! We reserved and were assigned a double queen suite. The fireworks view is the only part that we believe was “upgraded.”

We spent 3 nights here and since this was a “working” vacation, we were very happy to have the extra space. The living area had the desk and sofa. My husband was able to get up as early as he liked and get to work, while I slept as long as I liked in the bedroom. We usually have a problem with that in other hotel rooms: I like to stay up late working and he likes to get up early to work, so we drive each other crazy when we go on vacation. My husband is a contracting so he does not get regular PTO. If he doesn’t work, he simply does not get paid – which is why space for him to work on vacation has become so important to us. It may be the same for you, now that we have a larger work-from-home culture.

They do offer some standard room types, but from what I’ve seen there’s not very much difference in price between standard rooms and their suites. We would highly recommend going for a suite. The price is still fantastically reasonable.

SIDE NOTE: With restricted access to the elevator and gated parking, this hotel would also appeal solo travelers.

CONCLUSION

For our needs, this room and hotel were absolutely fantastic. Between the location (equidistant from Disney and Target!), the spacious room, and the price, we cannot think why this hotel isn’t talked about more. We would highly recommend it!
