Disney Hotel Lady

Unlocking the magic of Disneyland, one hotel at a time.

Hotel Lulu, Best Western Premier Collection

Hotel Lulu is about 10 (normal size) blocks from Disneyland, across the street and down Harbor Boulevard. As indicated in the title, it is operated under the Best Western umbrella. So if you have rewards or points with Best Western, they will work here at Hotel Lulu also.

The artwork in this hotel is super cute. Some murals and retro Disneyland memorabilia. You’ll find it throughout the lobby, elevators, and hallways.

The pool area here is great. There’s a nice size pool, loungers, bar, firepits, and games like Giant Jenga, ping pong, and corn hole. There is no hot tub, though.

There is a conference center here as well if you are looking to host an event, have a meeting, or schedule a reception.

There is a two-room gym: one room for weights and one for aerobic equipment. There is also a water bottle station where you can fill your water bottles before heading out to your daily adventures.

There is quite a large parking area at the back of the hotel with controlled access. Lots of handicap spaces. You are given a ticket at check in that you keep to scan into and out of the parking lot (think supermarket checkout scanner; much easier than the kind you have to insert and it sucks it out of your hand). Don’t make the mistake I did and try to leave the lot the same way you entered. The parking entrance is on the north side of the property, next to IHOP. The parking exit is on the south side of the property, next to the Toy Story parking area.

The hotel consists of two buildings, a north tower and south tower. The main entrance, lobby, restaurant, pool, and gym are all in the north tower. The south tower holds the laundry facilities.

The restaurant serves mainly breakfast for a fee. It is also open with a small bar menu for poolside dining (+ cocktails after 4pm). They also offer a room service menu. You can scan the QR code in your room and order burgers, Mexican, Mediterranean, chicken, and more all on your phone. Plus, each adult is offered an adult lemonade, Lulu’s signature cocktail, upon check in. You can claim your adult beverage at the front desk (where it’s on tap!) up until 3am the evening of your check in date.

And now we come to the good stuff – the room! I stayed in a standard double queen. Extra points to Hotel Lulu for not separating the toilet and sink – one of my my pet peeves! The bathroom is stylish and well-appointed. But, like most other hotels, lacks places to hang towels.

My room overlooked the pool area. The hotel does offer fireworks view rooms for an extra fee, but my room on the 5th floor could possibly have gotten a glimpse of them as well. No fireworks were scheduled during my February stay however. ☹️

I appreciated the modern TV and ample plug, USB, and even USB-C space. There is a small fridge and a microwave, along with a water kettle – a refreshing change making it equally possible to have coffee or tea.

There were no drawers in the dresser, but rather cubbies. An interesting concept, opening different possibilities for storage to the likes of me as a solo traveler. But I can’t imagine it does much good for anyone with more than 2 people in the room, especially considering the closet is also not large.

I actually did use the laundry facilities at this property. It turned into a scandal – just kidding. I did have a problem though. I had started my washer load and a little over 75% of the way through, it made a loud buzzing noise and the front display showed “out of order” with an error code. I went over to the front desk to notify them of the problem. They immediately notified maintenance. Within 10 minutes, a very pleasant gentleman was resetting the machine for me. He didn’t ask too many questions which made me think this might have been a known problem for them. But they refunded my money at the front desk and I moved my load into the second washing machine, which finished without incident. The dryer worked without issue as well. Note: these machines are coin-operated, quarters only. The front desk can provide you change for the machines.

The walk to the main gates at Disneyland is fairly easy – unless you get caught in a 5-minute downpour, like I did! There is also an ART stop just outside the lobby, if your feet just can’t take it anymore.

The biggest drawback here was I had an inconsiderate neighbor who smoke almost every night, despite the property being no smoking and despite my continued notifications to the front desk/security.

At times the hallways smelled funny too, but I chalked that up to it being an old building.

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. The amenities were excellent and the location great. Though you’ll only find standard king and queen rooms here, if you don’t need anything larger or fancier, this hotel is a wonderful option for your Anaheim stay. Just a few steps from the crosswalk.

Side Note for Solo Travelers

I really appreciated this hotel for its controlled access. You cannot get anywhere without your room key, except through the main door where you have go right past the front desk. The elevators require room keys to move above the first floor. The south tower requires a room key for entry (which you only need to go there if your room happens to be there or you need to do laundry). All doors from the parking area require room keys to open. And, as I mentioned, you need a ticket to get in and out of the parking area itself. Thus I felt more than reasonably safe here and would highly recommend it to solo travelers.
